Who is this qualification for?
This course replaces the Nominated Tester Training previously run by the DVSA. If you do not currently hold a valid MOT qualification, you will now have to gain an Award in MOT Testing Class 4 & 7, to conduct MOT Tests on cars and vans. This course will develop the skills relating to the MOT Testing Routine, you will focus on: working safely in the test centre, working relationships, professional development, pre-test checks and how to conduct the MOT inspection.
What do I need for the course?
Before you begin this course you must:
Have a current and full UK driving license for the vehicle classes you want to test
Be a skilled mechanic, with at least 4 years full-time employment in the service and repair of the vehicle types to be tested. (Apprentices who have been employed for 4 years are eligible.)
Have a Level 3 qualification recognised by DVSA / VOSA (for test class 3, 4, 5 or 7) or enquire to see if you are eligible to take our 1 day accreditation course.
Have no unspent convictions for criminal offences connected with the MOT testing scheme or the motor trade, or involving acts of violence or intimidation
Be ‘of good repute’
What is the training?
There are three main parts to your assessment:
The course operates over 4 days and will cover both the practical and theory side of conducting an MOT on classes 4 & 7 vehicles.
How will I be assessed?
An online, multiple choice exam. This will be conducted during your 4 day course.
A practical observation of you completing an MOT inspection in our Motor Vehicle Workshop.
A final test carried out by the DVSA, this will have to be booked by you using your Award in MOT Testing Class 4 & 7 certificate number (This will be covered in the course). This observation can be carried out at your place of work or at our workshop.

Who is this qualification for?
This qualification is primarily developed for mangers who wish to run an MOT Vehicle Test Station (VTS), or those who will have direct responsibility for MOT operations at the VTS in the future.
What do I need for the course?
There are no pre-requisites for this qualification.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment will be by online, multiple choice examination, conducted at the end of the course.
How long is the course?
It is a three day course. We have a fast track option of 3 days consecutively or our standard option of 1 day a week for 3 weeks.
What do I gain if successful?
The Level 3 Award in MOT Test Centre Management Certificate
What you need to set up and start testing
You must meet a number of legal requirements if you want to set up or continue to run an MOT test station.
Suitable premises and approved equipment for the vehicle classes you want to test with an authorised examiner (AE).
A qualified MOT manager to run the test centre.
An approved Tester for the vehicle classes you want to test.
The MOT manager and Tester must have taken an approved course and obtained the relevant qualifications.

Who is this qualification for ?
This course is for experienced unqualified technicians who wish to gain a level 3 vehicle inspection qualification to allow them to join the MOT classes 4-7 course. The technician must be able to work unsupervised – ideally, they should be in full time employment with at least four years experience to ensure they are familiar with the techniques for vehicle servicing, inspection and system(s) diagnosis.

How will I be assessed?
The candidate will have to complete six modules during the course on; emissions systems, electrical systems, braking systems, steering & susspension systems, vehicle structure and vehicle appraisal. These will be covered in five practical tasks and two on-line assessments.

An intense Level 2 Hybrid course that consists of the knowledge element and a practical assessment, culminating in a final exam. The course will incorporate the knowledge of high voltage Hybrid technologies and an understanding of their dangers.
